Seems like I remember that as a plant we kept in a pot in the kitchen window and when we got a little burn, we'd snip off part of the leaf and squeeze the juice on the burn.

Wow! I've never seen an aloe plant flower. I'm impressed.

I've never seen one either! Well maybe I have but I forgot what it looked like.

Tom: I think that's what I have.

Dirty Knees: (Love that name) I take full credit for not killing it; D

Dot: This is the second plant that is doing this. I had no idea I had such a green thumb.

I don't think I've ever seen one flower either. I have them in pots, but never a flower to be seen. This is a nice picture or a pretty plant.

Nessa said...

Sharon: What's so weird is they are sitting on the glassed in front porch where it gets really cold at night.

Nice aloe plant and interesting bloom. I haven't seen these since I lived in Hawaii.

Hi Kai
I am amazed at how many South African plants have been spread around the world. These grow in great profusion in the Eastern Cape and make a spectacular show of colour when they flower. Nice shots

Interesting! I`ve never had a flower on my Aloe, indoors in Norway.
It`s a useful plant. I use it on cuts, eczema etc.

Happy ABC! :)

Aloe Vera?
Would have been the perfect plant for our very own soap Queen Vera Duckworth who "passed away" in Coronation Street this week!

Paulie: These were cast off plants from my mom.

Max-e: It will actually get a flower?

Neva: Thanks. It looks alien to me; D

Ruth: It was a nice surprise to find it.

Ida: We have to try it on eczema.

Mrs. Nesbitt: You can use it in soap, Too?

AB: A day made just for you; D

Very nice of you to show us where it all comes from! In spite of your excellent photographs, it smells better than it looks...

Thank you for a nice comment - I don't know about the hole in the sign, but i think your first suggestion must be right.

It doesn't look very kind with all those thorns, but it can still be a helaing plant.

Nessa said...

Runee: They need to be repotted but I'm putting it off because they're prickly.

Hpy: They reach out and bite.

Mine flowered last year and then died. Luckily it left a 'baby' behind for me to pot up and put on the windowsill

Alan said...

Nice - don't get to see them flower very often.

Nessa said...

Iv2scpbk: It’s one of the few plants I can’t kill.

Daryle: It is pretty cool.

Siani: It’s sort of like a pine cone right now. I wonder if it will change.

VP: They do seem to make lots of babies.

Alan: The other one I have flowered too. First time for both.

Hi and welcome to ABC Wednesday!

I picked Aloe this week also. Aloe is actually somewhat of a commercial plant that is used for medicinal and cosmetic purposes. There are quite a few that can take some cold (not freezing).

So that's what it looks like. Very useful plant.
Lovely pictures, too.

Nessa said...

DFP: If I bring it in the house will the flower open?

Dragonstar: They're good on burns too.

I had no idea that the
aloe plant bloomed like
this. It reminds me of
Asparagus.

Have a Blessed Happy
Creative Year!!!

Very nice aloa plant

Nessa said...

Flassie's Fil's: Hi. It does look like asparagus.

L & N: Thanks.

Nice picture of the Aloe plant.

Your aloe is very well photographed and such a useful plant. alas, I kill all things green indoors, though I have some success outdoors. The A plants I have posted thankfully do not depend on my attention.

gma said...

We have alot of Aloe here in Az.
:-)

Max-e said...

Hi Nessa, they get red flowers, which are usually filled with nectar

Nessa said...

Andrea: Thanks.

Katney: This is one of the few I can't kill.

Gemma: I'd like to see some in the wild.

Max-e: I hope it goes that far.
